Will I Become A Fruitarian? On Raw Food And Hypoglycemia.

Ooooopps, I haven’t blogged in a long time. On the positive side, that means I have a lot to tell you guys about. A lot has happened in my life since last time I posted a blog. First goes my dietary change. I have a little health issue, that I have not told you about. I’ve had this since I was young, I can’t remember exactly when it started. I have sugar level issues, and I am almost 100% certain I have hypoglycemia, meaning that my sugar levels are much lower that usual. It is also called pre-diabetes, as this condition can progress into diabetes.

I was told, as any other hypoglycemic person, that I needed to eat more fat and protein. I found it hard, because it’s uncomfortable to eat more than you naturally do. It is not comfortable to over-eat. So I wasn’t super good at that, although I made an effort sometimes. What I did pretty well though, was to cut out sugar and fast carbs. Especially fruit I managed to cut out almost completely (chocolate was harder).

Lately, I’ve learned from non-science sources that fruit is really important if you have diabetes or hypoglycemia. And that fat on the other hand, is the thing you should cut down on. The worst thing is to eat fat together with sugar, as this incapsulates the sugar, so that the body can’t digest it, then your sugar levels will peak and then drop. Over time this will harm your organs and your symptoms will get worse and worse.

Fruit is not a bad food. It is a healthy food, with a lot of nutrients, and the sugar in fruit is not at all like regular white sugar. People have reversed diabetes and hypoglycemia going on a raw food diet, eating almost only fruits and vegetables. Long before a learned anything about this, I got drawn towards raw foods. I just thought it would be really hard without eating as much fruit. I also thought it would be hard to get enough protein. I am already a flexi-vegan (eating almost no dairy products), so I am already concerned about getting enough protein, vitamin B and all the minerals you need. To be honest though, I am a bit annoyed that the meat eaters are the know-it-alls, as if eating meat and dairy is healthy for you. «How do you get enough protein, calcium etc…?» is such a dumb question. There are a lot of amino acids in leafy greens that the body make into protein. I am no nutritionist but living without meat is definitely easy, and I do believe eating fully raw is a lot easier than most people think.

To me, it seems weird how rigidly some people believe in science. If anything is true, then it is the fact that science always learns more, and many, many times through history, has proved other facts to be completely false. To me it makes perfect sense to supply science with intuition. I feel like the intuition knows about health what science will prove in many years. I think it’s important to listen to your body. Your body is intelligent, and of course it has a lot to tell you about what it needs and what is healthy for you. After eating a lot more fruit, I’ve had no sugar level drops at all. I’ve also lost my cravings for sugar, which must be the first time in my life (everyone who knows me know that I’m a cake person).

I’ve had such a big improvement of my health since I’ve started eating more raw foods, and especially fruit. One of my favorite foods are water melon. It is just so good and so healthy for me. It got me thinking maybe it is possible to live off of fruit only? Who knows. It would at least be very enjoyable. To be clear, I am not becoming a fruitarian, I am just saying, maybe it is possible and even very healthy.
