How to create a home yoga practice

So I’ve  started my youtube channel and uploaded some few classes and a meditation (newest class is linked on the home page). I know a lot of people are doing yoga at home, and even though the studio is open, I know other places in Norway or outside Norway, the yoga studios are not open. However I am happy to reach people that are not in Arendal. 

Personally, I have finally figured out what works with me regarding practicing yoga at home. I loooove to have a routine. Nothing is better than to practice yoga everyday, and to feel that your body never “stiffens” so to speak. If you read my latest post, you know that I just recently moved to a new place, and that I discovered how much my environment has to say for my habits (I wrote about that in my last blog, so check that out as well if you like:). Now It is easy for me now to practice yoga five days a week before breakfast. Here is my list for creating a good home yoga practice habit:

  • Set weekly goals. One week, that is not too hard to manage. If you set your goal to last for the rest of your life, that’s way too exhausting to think about. Just one week with a daily or bi-daily goal. Or three times a week. Then the next week you can rethink that and see if you want the same goal for the next week or if you want to adjust it. 
  • Decide what you are gonna do, (which type of yoga), what teacher you are gonna follow if any, what duration you are gonna practice for and where. Maybe there is a specific online yoga class that you want to do, so you can for example choose to practice that one class for three or five days. 
  • Get prepared. Find a mat, put it in the place you are gonna practice. Find clothes and other things you might need so that it is all ready for you in the morning. 
  • Create a ritual that you do everyday to get ready for your practice. That way, you don’t need a lot of motivation when you wake up, because when you have done your ritual, your mind is programmed to do yoga and you will feel ready. You don’t wake up ready to do yoga, you wake up ready to do your ritual that will make you ready for doing yoga. Your ritual can be: find a glass of water, light a candle, change to yoga clothing, turn on some music etc. Find the things that you like to do and add to your ritual. Maybe you want essential oils or incense too.
